Opening reception will be Jan.21st, 2010 from 5:30-8pm and the show continues through February 14th.
The Sitka Residencies show will highlight Sitka resident artists, Catherine Bowen, Clare Rojas, Chris Nau and Robert Ortbal.
Catherine Bowen resides in the Boston area. Her paintings consider, among other ideas, perception and being. Clare Rojas, is from Columbus, Ohio and has a BFA in printmaking, as well as an MFA in painting. She also performs folk music under the name Peggy Honeywell, and has participated in numerous film festivals for short collaborative animations. Chris Nau studied zoology at OSU before going on to other colleges to earn his BFA and MFA. His paintings and wall drawings are abstractions of both machine and animal subjects that vie for survival amidst undermining elements of destruction. The transformative moments between wholeness and fragmentation, life and death, are key concepts veiled within the peculiar language of abstraction. Robert Ortbal received his BA and MFA at several California colleges. After school as his ideas evolved he began exploring many new materials and processes for his exhibitions and installations.
